From October 2023 to December 2024, 51 people received postdoctoral degrees and 225 people received doctoral degrees at our university. The scientists received their diplomas at a ceremony hosted by Prof. Marcin Sobczak, Vice Rector for Science and Technology Transfer.
As part of the third call for applications for His Magnificence the Rector of MUW's scholarship for young scientists, 15 people received awards. The scholarships were awarded for achievements and commitment to scientific activity, both in the area of publications and projects.
This year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded for the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation. It was awarded to Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun. - The work of this year's Nobel laureates investigated fundamental mechanisms of expression regulation and expanded our knowledge of cell physiology - commented Prof. Krystian Jażdżewski at the XXXIV Nobel Session - At the same time, they became a research point into very practical aspects of our health, namely the impact of microRNAs on a number of diseases, including cancer, on the clinical course and response to their treatment.
As every year, our students from the Student Government, IFMSA-Poland Warsaw Branch and PTSF Warsaw Branch invited all members of the MUW academic community to participate in the Noble Gift. Packing of jointly purchased gifts took place on Friday. Students were assisted by Rector Prof. Rafal Krenke and Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Education Prof. Marek Kuch. The gifts from MUW will go to Ms. Zofia and Ms. Joanna's family.
...The MUW Student Government, on behalf of itself and all colleagues, annually presents the best teachers of our university with Crystal Lancets. Yesterday, the best teachers for the 2023/2024 academic year were awarded. Who are the winners?
Among the academic teachers and employees of science and art who received nomination acts from the hands of President Andrzej Duda on December 5 was Prof. Iwona Traczyk from the Department of Public Health MUW. And at a ceremony held on December 12, the nomination act was received by Prof. Barbara Bobrowska-Korczak from the Department of Toxicology and Bromatology MUW.
On November 29, the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, handed out nomination acts to 60 academic teachers and employees of science and art. Among this group were two professors from our university.
On November 29, the Minister of Health, Izabela Leszczyna, honored academic teachers from medical universities with awards for outstanding scientific, teaching, implementation, organizational and overall achievements. This year’s winners include six teachers from our university.
Our university will receive PLN 2 million for the implementation of a project aimed at increasing the number of foreign doctoral students, the number of projects implemented in international cooperation, the number of foreign thesis advisors and the mobility of doctoral students.
Thanks to funding from the Medical Research Agency, our university will implement two very important projects: one on methods of slowing down the progression of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the other on the treatment of drug-resistant depression using psilocybin. The Medical University of Warsaw is also a consortium member in a project aiming to identify biomarkers for predicting the effectiveness of treatment of patients suffering from drug-resistant depression with intranasal esketamine.
