- Today 276 people are receiving their diplomas - said Prof. Marcin Sobczak - this is a huge number, which testifies to the very high scientific position of our university. Of course, in addition to this, our position is also evidenced by the tremendous achievements that you - the appointed doctors and postdoctoral students - have also built up in recent years - the Vice Rector noted in his speech at the opening of the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Prof. Rafal Krenke, Rector of MUW, stressed that behind the impressive number of newly appointed doctors and postdoctoral students is the individual work of each scientist.
- What is important is the personality, commitment and work of each person who receives a diploma today - the Rector said.
First, the postdoctoral diplomas were presented. The scientists received them from the hands of the Rector and the Chairmen of the Discipline Councils: Prof. Grzegorz Nałęcz-Jawecki (pharmaceutical sciences), Prof. Bolesław Samoliński (health sciences), Prof. Hanna Szajewska (medical sciences).
Another highlight of the ceremony was the Doctor's oath. After it, the newly appointed docotrs were invited to the stage one by one, along with their supervisors. Diplomas were presented by the Rector and the Chairmen of the Discipline Councils.
Speaking on behalf of the postdoctoral students was Agnieszka Bzikowska-Jura, MD, PhD. She thanked mentors and colleagues who inspired with their knowledge and experience, as well as helped overcome difficulties and motivated further development. She expressed gratitude to families and loved ones who supported in moments of greatest challenges. She also spoke of the mission that postdoctoral students have to fulfill.
- As postdoctoral students, we want to conduct research that has a real impact on improving the quality of life of patients and on educating future doctors and other health care professionals as well as scientists. The Medical University of Warsaw is the place that provides the opportunity to carry out this mission.
Carlo Bienkowski, MD, gave a short speech on behalf of the doctors. He recalled that the period of their training at the Doctoral School MUW was during a difficult time from the COVID-19 pandemic to the disinformation pandemic.
- Today is our celebration, the culmination of the years of work we have had to put into our research projects. The opportunity to receive our doctoral degrees in medical, pharmaceutical and health sciences is the result of our determination to overcome the multiple difficulties encountered on this sometimes bumpy road to obtaining an exceptional degree.
At the end, the MUW Choir, conducted by Daniel Synowiec, performed.
